Ear Medicine For Your Cats And Dogs

Researches on pet diseases show that around 20% of the dogs are affected with ear infections. Called Otitis Externa, this condition can be cured with ear medicine. If your dog is affected with ear infection, you will get a foul smell from its ears. It may not show any physical sign outside. The dog may not have any excessive discharge in its ears. The dog, however, would scratch its ears and sometime shakes its head vigorously.

Causes And Symptoms

Ear infection in a dog or cat begins with the end of the ears. Untreated ear mites, water in ears, accumulated earwax and allergies can cause these infections. The symptoms of infection at the beginning stage are rubbing and scratching of ears, shaking head, ears looking waxy, bloody or swollen ear, the pet crying upon touching its ears etc.

Once the infection reaches deeper in to the ears of a dog or cat, you will find the other symptoms. If you touch your pet’s head, it will cause pain. Dizziness, walking in circles, poor balance and raw skin on the ears are some other symptoms of infections that have penetrated deep into the ears. With proper ear medicine at proper time, you can help your pet get rid of its ear infection.

Veterinarians administer antibiotics to your pet as a conventional treatment. However, many bacteria present in a pet’s ears are resistant to antibiotics. If your pet shows pathogen resistance when your vet administers ear medicine, do not give your pet an over dose. With your vet’s suggestion, you can go for alternative treatment options.
